The Hart and the Hunter by Aesop
The Hart was once drinking from a pool and admiring the noble figure he made there.
"Ah," said he, "where can you see such noble horns as these, with such antlers! I wish I had legs more worthy to bear such a noble crown; it is a pity they are so slim and slight."
At that moment a Hunter approached and sent an arrow whistling after him.
Away bounded the Hart, and soon, by the aid of his nimble legs, was nearly out of sight of the Hunter; but not noticing where he was going, he passed under some trees with branches growing low down in which his antlers were caught, so that the Hunter had time to come up.
"Alas! alas!" cried the Hart: "We often despise what is most useful to us"
Here´s my translation to Spanish of the above text:
El ciervo y el cazador
Un día un ciervo estaba a la orilla de una charca bebiendo. Admiraba la noble figura que proyectaba en su agua. —Ay—, dijo él — ¡dónde se pudiera ver tan nobles astas como estas! Espero tener patas más dignas de llevar tal noble corona. ¡Qué pena que sean muy delgadas y débiles!
En aquel momento un cazador apareció y se acercó. Lanzó una flecha que voló con mucha velocidad hacia el ciervo. Este huyó y pronto estaba fuera de la vista del cazador, gracias a sus patas ligeras. Mas sin observar por dónde iba, el ciervo pasó por debajo de unos árboles con ramas muy bajas, las cuales lo prendieron por las astas. Así que el cazador pudo llegar a atraparlo.
¡Ay, ay! -- gritó el ciervo: a menudo despreciamos lo que nos es más útil.
